Mixed Media Methods: Switch and Mix

One day session

This session explores how to switch and mix all kinds of media, and how to distribute them in interesting ways. The session will teach you how to break down the lines, outlines, accents and areas of your subject of interest, and how to place them with the varied media to great effect. 

Mixed Media Methods: Hatching and Matching

One day session

This session explores how to make pictures by building up the marks.  The session will teach you how to use shading and layering with a variety of media across the surface, identifying their properties to help you combine the media successfully.  

Mixed Media Methods: All The Parts Play their Part

Over 3 days:

The simple steps in each stage will build into an in-depth investigation, that will increase your understanding of the properties of a variety of media.  A wide variety of media and different papers will be used to discover their potential and limitations.

Saturday Workshops are for non-members and members

This is a members daytime weekday course

 

We will explore a wide range of watercolour techniques and styles, including different ways of applying, agitating and manipulating the media for different effects.  We will cover drawing, colour theory, composition and many other aspects and ideas, with a new focus for each term.  Suitable for all levels, there will be some set tasks for you to try out with extension suggestions for those more advanced.  

This is a members daytime weekday course

 

We will explore a range of different techniques and also bridge the gap between drawing and painting.  Different subjects and ideas will be explored using different media, some suggestions are outlined in the materials list available.  Each term will have a different focus, as a journey of options.  Set tasks will lead to development in your preferred media so you may investigate subjects and ideas of your interest. Suitable for all levels.

Saturday Creative Printmaking Workshops are for non-members and members, 18 May 2024

Creative Sketchbooking course

Regular Tuesday evenings at the Ipswich Institute - ongoing, But currently Postponed

 

This course is designed for both newcomers and regulars who wish to further develop their artwork. Sketchbook practice is a central tool for creative thinking and recording observations. A wide variety of drawing and painting techniques will be explored along with input on key aspects of design , layout and idea generation.   Each term will have a new focus to help you explore different artists and techniques, and with optional tasks to help you develop personal interests, ideas and themes.

Creative Printmaking 

Has changed to a regular Saturday day workshop session on an ongoing monthly or two monthly schedule at the Ipswich Institute 

 

 

A printmaking workshop for beginners or improvers exploring a variety of different techniques.  There will be options for a variety of printmaking methods, including lino, mono-printing, stencils or texture methods, and also combinations can be explored.  There will be an extensive range of examples to guide your creativity.  You can arrive with nothing or bring along you own ideas and printmaking projects to further develop.  Working with an A5 press, most materials will be provided in the price including, inks, papers etc.  . Book one workshop at a time, but it will become a regular event.

Teaching and Professional Experience in Further Education

 

The courses I have taught include BTEC Extended Diploma Art & Design at level 3, level 2 and level 1, Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, A level Art (OCR & Edexcel/Pearson), BTEC Media Diploma Level 3 and A Level Photography; and I have delivered art and craft workshops to both children and adults at various times.  I attained my QTLS award In 2011.
